About the Position: Registered Nurse Medical Support Assistant
The Medical Support Assistant RN at Vail Health has two roles to play. The first consists of administrative duties as you serve as the link between the patients and the physician. Your typical administrative duties will consist of gathering relevant patient information and insurance information in order to fill out the correct forms and update the EMR system. You may also need to answer the phone to answer medication, information, and assistance requests as well as schedule patient appointments.
The Medical Support Assistant RN also performs clinical duties to better assist the physician and other members of the nursing staff. As a result, you may perform basic lab tests or prep a patient for X-rays. The MSA RN also disposes of contaminated supplies, sterilizes instruments, and educates the patients on any medications or special diets prescribed to them. In order to assist the attending physician, you may also administer medication, perform basic treatments, such as removing stitches, drawing blood, or changing dressings, and assist with procedures as directed.
